I fall behind
The party drudges on
Across the ice I watch them
Until they’re finally gone
I lie down on the snow
My body it betrays me
The cold it turns me numb
My vision starts to narrow
There’s blood within my lungs
Death was always abstract
A philosopher’s retreat
But here atop the ice cap
It seems so real to me
I set sail with a dream in my heart
To explore the distant North
As a kid looking out to sea
I was drawn by the mystery
A storm came in
And the engines all failed
Our crew was weary, sick
Bound to the glacier, thick
Months on the ice
All hope was lost
Our food was poison sweet
More of us dead each week
When the black order came
From the captain above
Take to the baron rift
Abandon the Erebus
We buried the dead
And set out through the snow
Across an endless plane
Eternal, must we go
A new sensation
From numbness comes a warmth
Like the heat from a flame
I know this to be
The failing of my frame
A bright constellation
A final glimpse of home
Is this my culmination
Is this my catacomb
Am I to be forgotten
Like the ship those miles back
Abandoned to the sea
A corpse beneath the ice

Thunder at dawn
The sound of morning
Clouds overhead
A last forewarning
Leaves in the air
A world of green
The downpour comes
Leave flowers on a grave
Dawn is the stage of potential and life
Clouds are the witness to temporal strife
Leaves are all wanderers, fated to die
Downpour a crashing, a wrath from the sky
Salvos at dawn
The sound of mourning
Noise overhead
A last forewarning
Dust in the air
A world of ashes
The downpour comes
Leave flowers on a grave

In fear and in dark
And with blistering heart
From all mercy depart
Take heed, an empire of
Hate and lead
The fates weep overheard
Hail the gathering dread
Take heed, an empire of
Fire, that burns inside the soul
Air, thick with the cries of the merciful
For truth is rare, and man is weak
Love is frail, and hearts are meek
Cowards rejoice
At the absence of choice
Hail primordial voice
Take heed, an empire of
Shadow and flame
Soul linger in shame
With no virtue to claim
Take heed, an empire of
Earth, devoid of life, a grave
Water, a torrent of blood ne’er to stave
But hark, here sounds the horn of calm
The sky brightens and beckons all home
For a peace eternal will rule the day
Fear, hate, and worry will melt away
